VariBanner - Variable Acoustic Banner for Theatres and Concert Halls

Overview

An Acoustic Varibanner consists of two layers of fabric, usually Wool Serge, hanging vertically and separated by horizontal slats at 16cm centres. The arrangement is best thought of as a Venetian blind arrangement made opaque by the addition of the two layers of fabric.

The demands for variable acoustics are entirely specific to each venue. Our project team will ascertain precisely the needs of the client and then design a suitable system using existing designs or custom builds as required. We always take into account the building into which the acoustic banners are to be fitted. Working closely with the architects and designers we will ensure that our equipment is designed and installed to be as unobtrusive as possible.

Specification

With variable acoustics now forming a key part of modern performance space design, Triple E have been called in to apply our expertise in fabric management to the demands of the architects involved in designing some of the worlds leading new Opera Houses, Concert Halls and Theatres. The aim is to provide perfect acoustic solutions for a variety of performance situations within one multi-purpose venue.

The Mechanism

Banners are raised and lowered by means of a flat stainless steel band around a pile-on drum. Similar again to a Venetian Blind, the band passes through the slats and is fixed to a tray at the bottom of the banner, so that it is gathered up as it is raised.

A shaft supported on bearings mounted in custom designed metal frames drives the pile-on drums. The metal frames can be wall or ceiling mounted to suit the location.

The motor driving the shaft is fitted with a brake and an integrated inverter for speed control and limit switches or encoders are fitted as appropriate to ensure accurate positioning at all times.

The whole operation is virtually silent and can be operated live in front of an audience without any distractions.

The control systems are built for each project to suit the clients needs, but will always include all necessary wiring and programming to a control panel. Remote control devices are also available.

As the demands for variable acoustics are entirely specific to each venue, our acoustic solutions are only available following full consultation and specification. Our project team will ascertain precisely the needs of the client and then design a suitable system using existing components or custom builds as required. We will always take into account the building into which the acoustic banners are to be fitted. We work closely with the architects and designers to ensure that our equipment is designed and installed to be as unobtrusive as possible.

Everything we do is aimed at ease of ongoing operation and maintenance so full training is given and operating manuals supplied at the commissioning stage.
